About Daintree, Mossman, Newell Beach, Wonga Beach and Whyanbeel Valley








Mossman is the major shopping and service centre for the region, however many facilities such as groceries, fruits and vegetables, postal and banking services are available on a more limited scale through outlets such as service stations, shops and resorts.

Visitors should be aware that there is a pharmacy and a health clinic north of the Daintree River but no banks, newsagencies, major supermarkets or hardware stores in the region north of Mossman. The next major centre is Cooktown.







MEDICAL FACILITIES

The region is serviced by a number of doctors and pharmacies in Mossman, where there is also a Hospital. There is also a pharmacy and a health clinic north of the Daintree River.

Services are held in Mossman as follows:

  · St Davids Anglican Church (Mossman) - Sunday 7.30am
  · Uniting Church (Mossman) - Sunday 9.00am
  · Assembly of God Church (Mossman) - Sunday Worship 9.30am
  · Assembly of God Church (Mossman) - Praise/Gospel Service Sunday 6.30pm

BANKING FACILITIES

There are no banks between Mossman and Cooktown, however ATM’s are located at the BP Wonga Service Station and the Daintree Store.

POSTAL FACILITIES

The area’s main Post Office is in Mossman. Postage stamps are available at the BP Wonga Service Station and at the Daintree Store.

TELEPHONES

Public phones are available at BP Wonga, Daintree Village and at the Daintree Ferry. Mobile phones have limited range - best areas are Mossman, Wonga and Daintree Village.

TOILETS

Public Toilets are situated near Foxton Bridge just north of Mossman - at BP Wonga Service Station - at the Daintree Ferry - and in Daintree Village.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Public transport is quite limited throughout the region and it is generally recommended that visitors who do not have their own vehicle should hire a car from Cairns or Port Douglas.

Coral Reef Coaches operate a regular service between Cairns, Mossman, Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation and Cooktown and, on request, will pick up and drop off in Daintree Village.

Visitors travelling north should be aware that fuel is not available in Daintree Village
